Founded
Founded as one of the first professional massage therapy associations in the U.S.
Founded in 1927, the New York State Society of Medical Massage Therapists, Inc. (NYSSMMT) is a 501(c) 6 not-for-profit professional trade association by NY massage therapists for NY massage therapists. NYSSMMT is dedicated to advancing the massage therapy profession primarily in New York State. As a state association, NYSSMMT is laser focused on the needs of NY LMTs that are typically overlooked by the national associations due to having a national focus on other states with lower educational requirements, lower standards and, therefore, makes the New York State massage therapy market highly coveted for its license. NYSSMMT aims to protect the NY borders while continuing the legacy of elevating the profession within the borders and in turn, lead the national industry.
NYSSMMT helps its members transform their passion for massage therapy into successful careers by providing quality continuing education in healthcare, empowering its membership with executive-level practice and business management skills and dynamic advocacy within a network of supportive peers across the state and beyond.
