National - Congress
September 24, 2024 - U.S. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-03) introduced a new bill in the U.S. House of Representatives aimed at curbing human trafficking. H.R. 9755, the “Human Trafficking Fingerprint Background Check Protection Act of 2024”, would require owners and employees of massage wellness spas to undergo fingerprint-based background checks to mitigate the risk of human trafficking and enhance public safety.

Central New York Region - NYSSMMT is monitoring the proposed legislation of a permit required to establish a business offering massage. Sole proprietors excluded.
New York City Region, June 20, 2024 - NYSSMMT has been working with NYC Councilmember Francisco Moya who has introduced a massage therapy business license to curb prostitution disguised as massage therapy.
Long Island Region - June 2024 NYSSMMT has been working with NYSSMMT members in Lindenhurst to be able to open a new practice as a moratorium has been in place to prevent the new establishment of operations disguised as "foot spas" and "massage parlors"
